The Kentucky Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)eNewsletter, published quarterly, is designed to deliver valuable information and insights on the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project (LSIORBP) to its varied team of managers, coordinators, contractors, suppliers and the community at large.

From the KY DBE Program Manager...

Since September 2003, the Ohio River Bridges Project's scope of work has been established and the KY DBE Program's mission continues to be executed by our team. The Program's commitment to help the Project exceed goals for disadvantaged, minority- and women-owned business participation is accomplished in many ways.

We work diligently to help organizations certified by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) as certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) develop new skills and become more competitive. We have worked with KYTC and the Federal Highway Administration to provide scholarships to certified KY DBEs for comprehensive strategic planning programs that assist with long-term sustainability.

We work one-on-one with organizations seeking KY DBE certification by identifying eligibility criteria and assisting them with resources and documentation. We also work with other service providers and agencies to provide no-cost/low-cost support services.

Our region is rich with minority- and women-owned businesses that may have opportunities on the Bridges Project, but have yet to research the opportunities and/or consider DBE certification.

This is why the work of the Ohio River Bridges KY DBE Program Manager occurs long before signs of major construction are evident. Small businesses in our region need the time and resources to prepare for work on what is currently one of the largest transportation project in the United States.

Sincerely,

Tierra,
Tierra Kavanaugh Turner
