The Kentucky Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)eNewsletter, published quarterly, is designed to deliver valuable information and insights on the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project (LSIORBP) to its varied team of managers, coordinators, contractors, suppliers and the community at large.

From the KY DBE Program Manager...

The Ohio River Bridges Project has had an eventful year, considering construction has not yet begun. As the Project continued in its design and right-of-way phase in 2010, the Bi-State Authority met to work out financial funding plans for the Project. As the Project proceeds, the KY DBE Program will continue to provide resources to certified DBEs.

We have been encouraged by the DBEs who have taken advantage of the scholarships provided through the Entrepreneurial Development Institute (EDI) in 2010; receiving measurable benefits from the Ohio River Bridges Project well before the first shovel hits the ground.

Like 2009, this year has been economically challenging for many small business owners. We've seen an increase in business certification with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet,

which can be attributed to expanded outreach about future opportunities and approved funding for transportation projects.

The Bridges Project's KY DBE eNewsletters in 2010, like in past years, provided a great deal of information to its readers about the Project and business resources for KY DBEs and other small businesses that have the potential to become certified DBEs. In this edition, we'll provide updates on some of the most popular articles as well as more resources to assist DBEs with the business and technical assistance they may need to grow and compete in the marketplace.

We are confident that small business will drive economic growth in 2011 and the KY DBE Program of the Ohio River Bridges Project will continue to provide programs, resources and assistance to ensure that certified KY DBEs are contributing to that economic development.

Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,

Tierra,
Tierra Kavanaugh Turner
