The Kentucky Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)eNewsletter, published quarterly, is designed to deliver valuable information and insights on the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project (LSIORBP) to its varied team of managers, coordinators, contractors, suppliers and the community at large.

From the KY DBE Program Manager...

The future is all about growth. As the economy slowly shows signs of leveling, signs of progress begin to show within the funding mechanisms of the Ohio River Bridges Project.

Our work with certified Kentucky Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (KY DBEs) continues to be focused on providing opportunities to increase their capacity, build experience and become more competitive.

Helping to prepare KY DBEs for growth - some DBEs are businesses with fewer than two or three employees - requires a combination of resources.

Many, certainly not all, are firms that do not have experience bidding on Kentucky Transportation Cabinet projects. Others do not have the financial resources to meet bonding requirements, or the capacity to bid on multi-million dollar projects.

To prepare for growth, business owners must first define what growth means for them and for their business. If growth means building the capacity to bid on projects exponentially larger than in the past, then they must form a business strategy that will help them do so.

In this edition of the Bridges Project's eNewsletter, we have information about how some DBEs are taking action to get through tough times to prepare their businesses for future growth. We hope that more small businesses choose to take steps to improve their chances now to grow into 2010 and beyond.

We congratulate the DBEs who are taking the steps now to build a better future.

Sincerely,

Tierra
