From the KY DBE Program Manager...
2008 was filled with activity, mostly behind the scenes, that helped certified DBEs and firms who are candidates for DBE certification, find the resources they need to build capacity, form partnerships and specifically prepare for future opportunities with the Ohio River Bridges Project.
 |
|
We have met many challenges with solutions, but we still have work to do in terms of getting DBEs engaged in the programs available to them.
The Entrepreneurial Development Institute has helped many DBEs develop plans for the future, just in time for the financial crisis. The strategic planning tools in FastTrac®
programs have improved the business |
owners' ability to manage their
businesses through the toughest of times.
Another challenge facing many DBEs is the awareness of requirements for doing business with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Many eligible firms have not applied for prequalification which is required for many road construction-related businesses.
The Ohio River Bridges Project website has added many new features for DBEs and the response has been very good. Many more DBEs are accessing the website for resources since its re-launch in the Spring of 2008.
Also in this edition, we included an article, "How to Build a Bridge" that was delayed for the posting of prequalification instructions in the Summer 2008.
The following articles have been chosen from past editions to reinforce these, and other important messages.
Our mission and work continues to be focused on reaching DBEs with these resources, services and crucial information.
Best regards and wishes for 2009,
Tierra,
