Exploratory Tunnel – Pre-Bid Meeting

On May 24th at 1:00 pm, a pre-bid meeting for the Exploratory Tunnel project will be held at the Harrods Creek Fire Department, 8905 U.S. 42 in Prospect, KY. This meeting is mandatory for prime contractors prepared to bid on the project. It is also an important opportunity for KY DBEs to meet and establish contact with other contractors interested in bidding on work on the exploratory tunnel and the access ramp at U.S. 42 and KY 841.

At the Contractor Briefing held on March 21st, more than 40 firms attended to see information presented by officials from KYTC and H.W. Lochner, Inc., the firm managing design work for Section 4, the Kentucky East End Approach.

The letting for the exploratory tunnel is scheduled for June 2007. Work on the access ramp and tunnel is expected to take approximately 20 months. Geotechnical information gleaned from the exploratory bore will aid engineers in their design of the twin (Northbound and Southbound bores), three lane highway tunnels beneath US 42 and Drumanard Estate..

Contact the Contractors

As a result of the Contractor Briefing, a registration list has been made available to all KY DBEs. This is the first of many opportunities for DBEs to reach out to larger contractors, and make your business known as ready, willing and able. You can do this in a number of ways including:

  • Email a letter of introduction and a resume of experience to the contractors. This is a good way to make contact and make other companies aware of you and your business. Be sure to include the areas in which you hold Certificates of Eligibility.
  • As always, attend every meeting you can to gain even more exposure and recognition with contractors on the Project.
  • Reach out to the Office of the KY DBE Program Manager for the Ohio River Bridges Project to get additional support with marketing tips and strategies.
  • Review project information on the Bridges website. It will have the most up-to-date information on upcoming project events and activities.
