The Kentucky Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) eNewsletter, published quarterly, is designed to deliver valuable information and insights on the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project (LSIORBP) to its varied team of managers, contractors, suppliers and the community at large.

The Community Transportation Solutions' (CTS) Kentucky DBE Management team, working with its many community partners, has already achieved amazing success and this Newsletter will share those stories along with those relating to the various agencies, organizations, businesses and activities associated with the Bridges Project.

As 2007 gains momentum, the KY DBE Program will continue to provide valuable information in support of certified KY DBEs in addition to those seeking certification for the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project (LSIORBP).

Through this and future eNewsletters, the KY DBE Program will offer open houses where contractors and DBEs can meet as well as pre-certification workshops and vital information about how to position DBEs effectively to compete for work on the LSIORBP.

The message we will focus on includes the need for strategic planning and commitment after KY DBE certification and prequalification has been acquired. KY DBE certification is only the first step to gaining experience, building relationships and positioning your company for growth.

Please remember that to get support, you must ask for it. The KY DBE Program for the LSIORBP is here to provide you with the support you will need.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Warmest regards,

Tierra Kavanaugh Turner,
KY DBE Program Manager

“I would urge KY DBEs and those firms considering DBE certification as part of their strategic plan, to understand that certification and prequalification is a ladder and not a crutch. I have never felt entitled to receive the work we have gained and I will not be defined simply as a DBE firm. We must challenge those that would define us as such with the quality of our work and the value we add to a project." ...Ed Holmes

Thinking man
KY DBE certification is a small part of the first big step toward building business through KYTC. But, prequalification is also critical because a DBE cannot win contracts on KYTC projects without it. Preparing for the responsibility and accepting accountability for moving beyond that first step is up to the DBE owners and managers to capitalize on the opportunities available.
