Tierra Kavanaugh Turner, CEO

Tierra Kavanaugh Turner, a native of Danville, Kentucky, is a graduate from the University of Louisville, with a bachelor of arts in Economics. She has held various management positions with corporations such as: BellSouth Mobility, now known as AT&T, American Express and BellSouth Corporation as a Loaned Executive to the Metro United Way. She is the founder and previous owner of Executive Courier Express LLC, a small package express delivery business.

In March, 2004, Tierra was appointed by Governor Ernie Fletcher to serve as the first Executive Director for the newly created Governor’s Office of Minority Empowerment. The Office serves in an advisory capacity to the Governor, the General Assembly, the Kentucky Congressional Delegation and other appropriate government officials. She had the responsibility of researching and participating in the development of policies affecting Kentucky’s minority community in the specific areas of economic development, education, healthcare, housing, government services and criminal justice matters.

In 2006, Tierra founded TKT & Associates, Inc., which has become a leader in both supplier and workplace diversity management and professional staffing for the public and private sectors. TKT & Associates, Inc. also provides clients over 100 combined years of expertise in small, disadvantaged, minority- and women-owned business growth development.

In 2008, Tierra was appointed by Governor Steven L. Beshear as a member of the Judicial Nominating Committee, 30th Judicial Circuit and District.

Tierra currently serves on the board of Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) as an Executive Committee member and serves as the Chair of GLI's Public Policy Committee. She serves on the board of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and is the Chair of the Kentucky Chamber’s Small Business Committee. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Louisville Local Advisory Board for BB&T, a Board Advisory member of the Ohio River Valley Women’s Business Council and is a member of the Board of Directors at the Norton Healthcare Foundation.

 

Sheila Kavanaugh, Vice President

Sheila Kavanaugh, a native of Danville, KY where she attended the National College of Business, brings TKT & Associates, Inc. over 18 years experience in business ownership, employee/community relations and human resources. In 2006, she accepted an appointment from Governor Ernie Fletcher to the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commission; and from Judge Executive Tony Wilder to the Danville/Boyle County Board of Adjustment for Planning and Zoning, while continuing to serve several not for profit organizations including the advisory board for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the board of directors of Hospice, the Danville Community Art Center Leadership Council and many others.

Sheila is a member of the Louisville and Central Kentucky Chapters of the Society for Human Resource Managers (SHRM). She has championed fund development events for organizations, including Matsushita/Panasonic, American Cancer Society, the Salvation Army and the United Way and she is a certified Heritage Hospice volunteer.

 

Thurman L. Sisney, General Counsel

Thurman L. Sisney, brings to TKT & Associates, Inc, a unique combination of experience in law, business and government. Lee received a BA in Psychology from East Central Sate University in Ada, Oklahoma, a MBA and followed up with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville. He was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1980. He maintained a private practice in the areas of litigation, administrative and corporate law.

From 1984-1987, Lee served in Kentucky Sate government as Executive Director and Chief Counsel for the newly created Office of Legal and Legislative Services for the Finance and Administration Cabinet.

In addition to serving as Legislative Liaison in the Governor’s Office before returning to private practice, he was tapped as General Counsel for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and was quickly promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture.

At the end of his service, Lee returned to private practice and in 1993 established a company that acquired control of Lincoln International Corporation, a publicly held company, which then owned the Bourbon Stock Yards, a number of franchises and Lincoln Finance Company. Lee later created and financed Accounting USA to provide outsourced accounting, bookkeeping and payroll services to the business community. These corporations were sold in 2004 and 2005.

Lee is a native of Oklahoma but he and his family have made Kentucky their home since 1971.

   

Christy R. Jarboe, Director of Marketing and Business Development

Christy Stanfield, Director of Public Relations and Marketing – Public outreach, multi-media marketing, small business strategic planning and consultationChristy R. Jarboe, a native of Louisville, brings to TKT & Associates, Inc. over 20 years of experience in sales, brand management, strategic business development and marketing.


Christy has managed client relationships and created licensed product portfolios for brands including Southern Comfort, Jack Daniel's, Louisville Slugger and Tabasco. She has developed web-based marketing programs and tools for major Real Estate Brokers and managed sales and distribution for a Louisville-based team of toy inventors.

Through research, assessment and project management, Christy has developed strategies for companies to create new and build existing revenue streams. With strong communication skills and creative thinking, Christy manages media and client outreach, e-Marketing and business-to-business marketing programs for TKT and provides marketing consultation to our small business clients.

As part of the team of facilitators of FastTrac® small business growth development programs, Christy offers advice and consultation to small business owners on marketing strategies and business development. Christy also provides small business owners a wealth of information about small business enterprise certification as a strategy for business growth.

Christy currently serves on the board of the St. Matthews Area Business Association and chairs their Marketing committee and participates as a member of Greater Louisville Inc.’s Small & Independent Business Committee.

 

Deborah Mettling, Director of Business Services

Deborah Mettling, a native of Eaton, Ohio is a summa cum laude graduate of Spalding University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication. She holds a Masters Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University and certification as a Diversity Professional/Advanced Practitioner from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

Deby brings to TKT over 20 years of experience in supplier diversity management and development of strategic diversity initiatives. She has implemented and managed Supplier Diversity Programs for private and public organizations as well as Affirmative Action Plans, ensuring compliance with local, state and federal laws.

Her expertise in creating and implementing effective and economically inclusive procurement programs, affirmative action policy, team development and management programs has led to an array of awards including the Outstanding Human Resources Supporting Role Award - Human Resource Council of Southern Indiana, the Ferda C. Porter Award for Individual Excellence in Supplier Diversity – Tri-State Minority Supplier Development Council (TSMSDC), Minority Business Advocate of the Year – U.S. Small Business Administration, and many more.

Deby serves on the Steering Committee of the Kentucky Industry Liaison Group, a collaborative group of representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor—OFCCP and EEOC and HR professionals of federal government contractors, and is a past president of the organization. She is a member of the Louisville Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM). She has had many years of service on the Board of the Tri-State Minority Supplier Development Council where she has served as Board Chair.

   

Dorothy Abernathy, Office Administrator

Dorothy Abernathy, Office Administrator – Office and information organization specialist, database managerDorothy Abernathy brings to TKT & Associates, Inc., over 40 years of experience in office management, accounting and newspaper publishing.

During her 34 years at Landmark Community Newspapers in Shelbyville, KY, she held various positions including Accounting Clerk, Office Manager of The Oldham Era, Publisher of The Oldham Era and served in that capacity for 25 years. She also was Publisher of The Trimble Banner in Bedford, KY for 10 years.

Dorothy is a member of The Kentucky Press Association where she served as president in 1995. She was active in forming The Kentucky Press Association Ad Division serving as chairperson in 1986. She also was a member of the Board of Directors for a number of years.

Her community involvement included serving on the Vocational Education Regional Advisory Committee; Board of Directors of Oldham County Chamber of Commerce; Advisory Committee of the Oldham County Chapter of United Way; Advisory Committee of the Oldham County Chapter of the American Red Cross; Board member of the Oldham County Educational Foundation and a member of the La Grange Rotary Club.

She is a native of Ft. Branch, IN, but has resided in Kentucky since 1968.

 

Vetta Y. Johnson, Manager of Business Services

Vetta Y. Johnson, Manager of Business Services – Facilitator of FastTrac® small business growth programs, consultation for small, disadvantaged, minority- and women-owned businessesVetta Y. Johnson is a native of Louisville and a graduate of Spalding University with a B.S. in Business Administration and a Minor in Communications and is an alumnae of Presentation Academy’s class of 1982.

Vetta is a certified facilitator of the FastTrac® Listening to Your Business™ and GrowthVenture™ programs, working with experienced small business owners to help maximize the growth potential of their firms.

Vetta brings to TKT & Associates, Inc. 25 years of administrative management experience. As the administrative coordinator for AMEC Earth & Environmental, Inc., Vetta managed the administrative support staff and coordinated supplier relationships, directed purchasing and managed the vendor and sub-contractor purchasing activities.

Vetta also assisted in the management of the worker’s compensation and auto liability insurance program for the Risk Management department at Brown & Williamson Tobacco where she was employed for nine years. Vetta specializes in the management and coordination of a variety of projects, databases and reports.
